Vashon Equestrian Paintings
Erin’s show will open on First Friday, February 2nd, from 6-8pm – at The Hardware Store Gallery.
Erin has had the pleasure of living on Vashon for just over 10 years. She began studying art in Yakima, WA where she grew up. Erin continued studying later as a student at the University of Washington. Ironically, she was first exposed to the classical approach to painting and atelier style education at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing China (‘88-‘89) where she had private instruction in portraiture. Erin furthered her studies at the Gage Academy in Seattle, Grand Central Academy in New York and Florence Academy of Art in Italy.
Erin’s training in classical realism (still life, portrait, landscape and figure) seems so fitting for portraying this remarkable world of horses; a world she knew nothing of until last summer. She was inspired to explore this world by the young ‘horse girls’ at Carpe Diem (Harbor School) where horses seemed top of mind and play. Vashon not only offered Erin this inspiration, but it also gave her the time and community of horse families from which to draw.
