In her decades-spanning practice, Malei Young has explored, the circle imagery in many different materials and mediums. For the past few years her time in the studio has been dedicated to working in watercolors. Her brightly colored, many layered surfaces are the backdrops for floating orbs reminiscent of celestial bodies. She considers herself a process painter and finds meaning in the creative act of painting.
Mather Kangas Pacific Northwest Author and Art Critic describes Malei’s approach as “balancing external and internal worlds with paint, process, and private iconographies.” In fact the foundation of Malei’s work can be found in the intuitive nature of her experience in the studio. She sees the act of painting as way to unearth the creative journey that keeps her connected to her true self.
The exhibit opens at The Hardware Store Restaurant on September 1st, with an Artist’s Reception at 6:00pm, and closes September 30th.
